Volunteer

Are you looking for an exciting and inspiring volunteering opportunity? With the Geffrye Museum reopening soon, we need new committee members to help us raise the profile of this wonderful museum and grow our community of supporters.

We have three trustee roles to fill: Secretary, Membership and Database Officer, and Social Media Officer. The commitment is approx. 2 days per month, with a meeting on the third Tuesday of each month.

If you’re interested in any of these positions, or for more information, please contact chair@fotgm.org.

Trustee roles

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for providing minutes for meetings, supporting the Chair on overall administration (including liaison with the Charity Commission), keeping a committee diary and general forward planning.

The Secretary needs good communication, administration and computer skills, with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and online collaboration tools. They should enjoy working cooperatively with a small friendly team, as well as taking individual responsibility for the Secretary role.

Our current Secretary’s term of office ends in March 2020 and we hope a new Secretary will be in place for handover before then.

Membership and Database Officer

The Membership and Database Officer is responsible for providing a friendly and timely service to our membership – including processing new members and mailing out membership packs. They will ensure our membership communications are engaging, up-to-date and efficient, and will be supported in this by the Membership Working Group. They will also be responsible for our CiviCRM database, including providing membership data to the committee on a regular basis.

The Membership and Database Officer needs to have good oral and written communication skills, strong computer skills, and be comfortable with using databases for recording and reporting information (training will be provided in the CiviCRM database software). They must be able to work cooperatively with our team and able to take the initiative, such as proactively identifying improvements to the membership system.

Social Media Officer

To raise public awareness of the reopened Geffrye Museum and our role in supporting the museum, we need to increase the Friends’ social media presence. We have created a new trustee role to lead on our social media, with the aim of growing our audience and engagement on Facebook and Twitter – and potentially new channels. The Social Media Officer will be supported by our Communications Working Group.

The Social Media Officer should have experience in creating engaging online content, and familiarity with several social media platforms. They will be creative and have excellent communication skills, and be enthusiastic about raising awareness of the Friends and the Geffrye Museum with new audiences.
